Dog Training
Owning a dog is a big responsibility and one that, hopefully, will last for many years. It involves feeding, watering, walking, vet checkups and providing a good home for the dog. Every dog owner knows about these things, but the one thing they forget about is puppy training or dog training. As a dog trainer once said to me, “ the command that seems unimportant today may be the one that saves his or her life one day”.
There are different ways to train your dog and different kinds of training. Dog obedience training, I believe, is the most important training your dog will every have. Dog obedience training should be started on a puppy at a young age. If you are not sure how to train a dog, there are volumes of information online or at your local library, or perhaps someone knowledgeable in training a dog. Dogs are trained as watchdogs, guard dogs, Schutzund, obedience, agility, show and hunting.
Many people like to have dog-training supplies before they begin training a dog. Some items you may want to have to begin training your dog are:
· Collar
· Leash
· Treats
· Dog brush
· Training collars
· harnesses
There is disagreements and controversy regarding giving treats as part of training. I believe in giving treats to puppies during puppy training until they are old enough to understand what is expected of them.
The use of dogs for hunting purposes has increased a lot the past few years. Many hunters buy dogs for hunting and tracking. There is a lot of work involved in training a hunting dog. There is some of the same dog training equipment used for regular dog training as there is for gun dog training. Many times it takes much practice for a dog to get used to the sound of a gun and not be timid around them.
Hunters will have a variety of collars, leads, leashes, and retrieving toys as well as pull toys. Different collars are used for different circumstances and different temperaments in a dog. The pull toys are used to check the dog’s stamina and drive and teach him to “grab” the prey. These things need to be taught to the hunting dog. Training needs to be a consistent thing. It takes a lot of time and devotion to train dogs and much to learn about:
