Dog Fences

Many people that own dogs live in the city in apartments and don’t have space for their dogs to run around. If you live in the country, your dog has all the room he or she needs, so you probably have a dog fence around your yard. Dog fences are very common today as dogs don’t have the freedom to roam and “visit the neighbors” as they could years ago.

There are different kinds of fences that can be installed in your yard. The typical dog fence is a dog kennel fence. This is usually a chain link fence. These consist of rolls of chain link fencing, posts to attach them to and a gate. These are very common and work well. Most of the time they are 4 to 5 feet tall.

A popular type of dog fence is the invisible dog fence. We know where the invisible fence is, but the dog doesn’t. The Innotek Dog fence company has a line of invisible dog fences. Some of these are designed for small dogs and other for larger dogs. The dog wears a collar with a sensor. The invisable dog fence is installed underground. When the dog gets near the invisible dog fence, the dog will hear a small sound, like a warning beep. This is generally all the dog needs to hear and he or she will stop. If, however, the dog continues beyond his boundary, he will get a small shock (you all remember the CKY dog fence!). The shock intensifies the more he proceeds to the underground dog fence.

The dog needs the collar to be on for the fence to work. After usually a short period, the dog will automatically know its limits in the yard even without the collar. Most owners keep the collar on for additional safety. Many dog owners feel wireless fences for dogs are very effective and have a much neater appearance than the typical dog kennel fence.

The wireless dog fence provides a collar for the dog and flags to put on the boundary line for your dog. These are a little different from the underground dog fence. The similarity is that both emit a short warning for the dog followed by a shock if the dog proceeds. These are usually not recommended for dogs less than 10 pounds or dogs with heavy thick fur.

Wireless dog fences are becoming highly popular with owners that don’t wish to have their yard full of visible fencing. They are effective, reasonable in price (considering their durability) and have a normal appearance.

A portable dog fence is an option for those with a small yard or likes to travel with their dog. You will never have to worry about your dog on a trip again. The portable dog fence goes where you go and is easy to set up.
Electronic dog fences are fast becoming the wave of the future for dogs.
