Saint Bernard
The Saint Bernard dog (also known as St. Bernard) has been around for a few hundred years starting off as a companion and watchdog for the monks that lived in monasteries near the Alps. They were used to rescue monks that were lost in snow storms and possibly buried under snow. Many of the Saint Bernards were lost this way making them almost extinct. Through the dedication of Saint Bernard Breeders, they were able to keep the breed alive.
