Great Dane
The Great Dane is a breed of hound dog that is as lovable as he is big. The large size of Great Danes may fool you into being afraid; however, Great Dane dogs are gentle and docile with people as well as other animals. All they want is to play, love and be loved. The Great Dane dog weighs anywhere from 100 to 150 and is 28”to 32” with a life span of 12-15 years. They are very strong dogs and still they will not hesitate to climb on your lap if allowed.
The colors can be fawn, brindle, blue, black, or mantle. Most of the Great Dane dogs used as family pets are fawn in color.
The blue Great Dane is a beautiful dog with his color being a deep steel blue with a shiny appearance. With the size being so big, they look like a small horse. Puppies should begin their training when they are very young and still with their littermates.
Great Danes are susceptible to some health problems such as:
· Bloat- Distending and twisting of the stomach, this is common in many large dogs.
· Hip Dysplasia
· Dilated Cardiomyopathy
· Congenital heart diseases
· Yeast or staff infections
Great Danes are a popular dog in Pennsylvania where they are the state dog and the team mascot at the University of Albany.
