Collie
I don’t know about you, but when I think of Collies, one dog comes to mind and that dog is Lassie. Everyone knows Lassie and after watching Lassie, everyone wanted a Collie dog or Collie puppies. The Collie dog originally came from Scotland but its popularity soon had everyone wanting a Collie. Collie dogs are very good farming dogs. The colors of a Collie vary from brown, white to brown, and black and white and brown mixed. Their size is large weighing from 50 to 80 pounds. There are three breeds of dogs all having Collie as part of their name.
The Collie comes as a rough Collie or smooth Collie. Lassie was a rough Collie. The smooth Collie is similar except has a very short coat of hair.
Bearded Collie is a herding breed of dog also known as a “beardie”. They were originally bred for herding, but now they are mostly family pets and show animals. The bearded Collie has a look different from the ‘typical’ Collie.
The Border collie is a result of research and breeding experimentation to get the finest herding dog. They combined the best traits of the regular Collie with the best traits of herding dogs. Their hope was to get an intelligent, speedy and gentle dog with a good eye. The result they got in Border Collies was exactly what they hoped to get.
Their speed is remarkable as they are extremely fast and can stop on a dime and switch directions instantly. These exact traits make Border collies excel as herd dogs as well as in the show ring.
