Bulldog
Bulldogs, sometimes known as English Bulldogs, are part of a non-sporting breed and are considered the best all around family dog. The bulldog originally got its name because it challenged bulls, bears or other dogs in the ring in Great Britain. Bull dog breeders then bred for the non-violent traits to make them the wonderful pets they are today.
Bull dogs are very loving, affectionate dogs with a life span of 8 to 10 years. They do not handle extreme weather conditions well, especially heat, so it is best to keep them indoors most of the time. The English Bulldogs are prone to certain health problems as cherry eye, skin disorders and hip Dysplasia. Their size ranges from 12” to 14” tall and 50 to 55 pounds. There are many Bulldog rescues in America, so if you are looking for Bulldog puppies, check there. English Bulldog puppies are very loving pets and love to play with children. Their intelligence is not very high, so there are not that easy to train.
French Bulldogs are a muscular dog with heavy bones and a medium or small frame. They are very alert, playful and curious. The French Bulldog is smaller than the English Bulldog ranging 12-14 inches high and only 19-28 pounds. They don’t do well in the heat and are unable to swim. The French Bulldog is a crossover of the English Bulldog, because of crossbreeding with resulted in smaller and gentler dogs. The French Bulldog puppies became and still are very popular due to their size and personality.
American Bulldogs are a breed of working class dog. They are little larger in size then the English bulldog and were developed for herding cattle and protection. There are two types of American Bulldog: Classic and Standard type. They are used throughout North America to catch escaped pigs, earning them the name “hog dogs”.
The Georgia Bulldogs, a Georgia football team, got their name because of the bulldog. At a football game in 1901, Georgia fans wore badges with a picture of a bulldog tearing up a piece of cloth and a slogan reading, “Eat ‘em Georgia”. For weeks after that game, news reporters kept describing the team as ‘bulldogs’ until the name stayed with the team.
The Bulldogs have become such a popular breed that there is bulldog clipart available everywhere for posters, calendars or graphic designs.
