Dog Crates
Dogs sleep or relax in many different places. Some have doghouses, some rest on the furniture and some have a dog crate. Dog crates were not heard of years ago, but are used quite frequently by dog owners. Some dogs enjoy their dog crate so much they wouldn’t want any other place to sleep or relax.
When I purchased my first dog crate for my dog, it was on the advice of another dog owner. I couldn’t imagine my dog ever enjoying it just by the way she cried when I put her in it the first time. I was told if I wanted to housebreak my dog, crate training was the easiest way to do it. Again, I was doubtful. It is a fact that the majority of dogs or puppies will not relieve themselves in the same place where they lay or sleep. Each night got easier and easier for my puppy.
Now she is a 6-year-old adult that would be lost without her crate. If she just wants to be alone, she will go in the bedroom and sleep in her dog crate. At night, she jumps on my bed until I fall asleep, then she jumps off and goes to her crate for the night. I would recommend crate training a puppy to any new dog owner. Even for adult dogs, crate training a dog will work out well for both of you. Dogs like having their “own space”, just as we do. Luckily, for both of us, they sell dog crates in extra large, as ‘Lady’ is a large German shepherd.
I keep a dog crate cover on her crate, which is in front of the window. She enjoys laying on top of her crate looking out the window, so the cover makes it comfortable for her. Dog crate covers also keep light out of the crate so the dog sleeps easier as well as protecting the crate.
Manufacturers of dog crates make many different styles of dog crates; some even are custom dog crates. Custom dog crates can be made to fit your needs in your home or vehicle. They are more expensive than the regular dog crates, but they will be around as long as your dog. For the outdoors, many dog owners use wooden dog crates that they make themselves. These are usually stationery due to their heavy size.
There are wicker dog crates, which will add to your home décor. You see these more as small dog crates. If you travel frequently with your dog, portable dog crates will be solution for you and your pet. Portable dog crates are soft dog crates that can be folded for easy storage. Soft-sided dog crates make it possible to take your dog with you as well as his bed. So many people say they don’t sleep comfortably in a bed that is not their own. Who’s to say our dogs don’t feel the same way? With portable dog crates, your dog can sleep in his or her bed no matter where you both are.
